So far, there are 10 Victim Support Offices – the so-called GAV – in Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon-North, Lisbon-West, Lisbon-South, Porto-Este and Setúbal.
In this the Government announced the creation of two new Victim Support Offices, one in Porto and the other in Seixal, areas where there has been an increase in cases of domestic violence.
“We are going to install two more Victim Support Offices, one at DIAP in Porto (where, in the last year, more than two thousand and 800 cases of domestic violence were filed) and another at DIAP in Seixal (where, in the same period, two thousand and 200 cases of this type of crime have been filed”, announced, this Monday, the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice.
So far, there are 10 Victim Support Offices – the so-called GAV – in Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon-North, Lisbon-West, Lisbon-South, Porto-Este and Setúbal.
“These are offices that operate alongside the Investigation and Criminal Action Departments of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (DIAP). There, technicians with specialized training help victims with information about the process or in monitoring procedural steps. One of the objectives is to ensure that victims exercise their rights”, the minister further explained.
In total, these offices have already supported more than 1,600 women, revealed Rita Alarcão Júdice.
