Spreadsheet has 28,819 line projects and total unpaid contributions to Social Security is R$12.3 billion from January to August 2024
The company payroll tax relief program provided a reduction of R$12.3 billion from January to August 2024. The total number of companies that used the resource was 28,819. These are enterprises that are qualified to have this type of discount when calculating when they need to pay monthly to the INSS (National Social Security Institute), the system that guarantees pensions for millions of workers in the private sector.
This system will begin to be phased out gradually from January 2025. The benefit will end completely at the end of 2027. In 2028, all companies will have to collect 20% of the total amount of wages paid to their workers monthly.
The transition applies to the 17 sectors of the economy that can currently pay less INSS. The project approved by Congress was not what the Palácio do Planalto and the Ministry of Finance expected. The president (PT) the text with partial vetoes on September 16, 2024, but maintaining the essence of what deputies and senators had decided and the project became law .
On November 13, 2024, the Federal Revenue Secretariat released, at the request of the Minister of Finance, a complete list of companies that had tax benefits in 2024. The total from January to August was R$97.7 billion.
In the case of the payroll tax exemption, the total amount (R$12.3 billion) is second only to the tax exemption granted to the fertilizer sector so far in 2024 (R$14.954 billion).
