Inmet warns of heavy rains in some regions; see forecast for the week

Some regions may have heavy rains this week in Brazil, according to forecasts from Climatempo and the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

Inmet issued three warnings for storms valid until this Monday (25th), but can be extended to the next few days.

The agency divides the alerts into three severity levels: Potential Danger (yellow), Danger (orange) and Major Danger (red). See the warnings below at this time:

  • Danger of intense rains: Northeast and Midwest
  • Potential danger of intense rains: North, Central-West and Northeast
  • Potential danger storm: Rio Grande do Sul

The orange alert predicts rainfall of up to 60 mm per hour and intense winds of up to 100 km/hwith the risk of falling branches and trees, flooding and electricity cuts.

The yellow ones are valid for rainfall of up to 30 mm per hour and intense winds of up to 60 km/h. There is a low risk of falling branches and trees, flooding and electricity cuts.

Only the Southeast region and a few states should not pay attention to precipitation. See below the marks that indicate Inmet’s alert areas.

The alerts are valid for 17 other states and the Federal District, with Bahia and Mato Grosso are expected to suffer the greatest impact from the rains. In all, 1,683 municipalities may be affected due to storms over the next few days.

Inmet also advises the population of these regions not to take shelter under trees or park vehicles near towers and power transmission poles.

Heat and heavy rain

Climatempo states that the last week of November should have rain showers concentrated in central and northern Brazil. Today, the storms should stay more in the Northeast, while the week begins with hotter and drier weather in the South region.

In the Northeast, the rains should only lose strength on Wednesday (27). The meteorological agency warning for storms in Bahia, in the hinterland of Pernambuco, in the south of Maranhão and in Piauí.

The advancement of a new cold front at the height of Rio Grande do Sul encourages unstable weather in the region at the beginning of the week. Paraná and Santa Catarina with a remote possibility of rain, due to drier air and high temperatures in the states.

The agency highlights the return of heat in the Southeast during the afternoons. The capital of São Paulo should have firm weather with dry air, just like in Rio de Janeiro.

The forecast is isolated blows on the borders of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. Belo Horizonte starts the week with milder temperatures, while Vitória can rain quickly between the afternoon and evening.

Hot, humid air coming from northern Brazil will generate a humidity corridor in the interior of the countryfollowing Climatempo. The region of northern Mato Grosso, southern Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Acre has the potential for storms.

In Goiás, Tocantins and the Federal District, the forecast is for moderate to heavy rain. These states will still have some sunshine, maintaining the muggy weather conditions
