Iran’s highest political and religious authority once again accused Israel of committing “war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon with attacks on civilians.”
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, said this Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be sentenced to death, considering that the detention order issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) is insufficient.
“A death sentence must be issued for Netanyahu and the criminal leaders of this regime [Israel]”, Khamenei said at a meeting with the Basij Islamic military militia in Tehran.
Iran’s highest political and religious authority once again accused Israel of committing “war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon with attacks on civilians.”
“The bombing of civilian homes is not a victory. The enemy did not win in Gaza or Lebanon, nor will they win,” he said.
The decision was later celebrated by Iranian political and military authorities.
“The verdict of the International Criminal Court is a victory for the Palestinian and Lebanese people,” said the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, General Hossein Salami, on Friday.
Iranian authorities did not comment on the CPI’s arrest warrant against Mohamed Deif, the military leader of Hamas, an ally.
The ICC does not have a police force to detain suspects, but its 125 member states, including the United Kingdom and European Union countries, have an obligation to cooperate with the Court. Neither the United States nor Israel is part of this court.
