Why add citric acid and what to watch out for
It’s simple and clear. Baking soda and vinegar are commonly used to clean toilets, but also bathrooms and kitchens. Yes, caustic soda and acidic vinegar neutralize each other, but that’s not the point. The effervescent reaction of these two ingredients is an effective way to deal with almost any dirt. This is because the reaction loosens the dirt and, based on this, any subsequent cleaning is significantly easier.
However, it doesn’t have to be just vinegar that causes that almost explosive reaction with baking soda. If you don’t want the mixture to foam immediately, which is definitely not desirable when making tablets, then you can use another strongly acidic agent, which is also cheap, available and effective. It’s citric acid.
Although citric acid is a natural and freely available agent that is also used, for example, in cooking and baking, it is also contained in small amounts in fruit, but it is still an acid! It is therefore safe to use under certain conditions. Do not touch the acid with your hands, but use gloves or tools. In the case of tablet production, an ordinary spoon or whisk is sufficient.
Always work with similar materials in a well-ventilated area. Although the acid will not start producing fumes uncontrollably, it is safer and simply for good rule of thumb for Uncle Příhoda.

Citric acid will clean the toilet for you
What is the advantage of using citric acid? As already mentioned, it is a loose form of something very acidic that you can use to replace your favorite vinegar. Citric acid alone can dissolve limescale, eliminate bacteria and neutralize odors. It’s very easy to use and if you don’t want to make homemade cleaning tablets, you can definitely use just the acid itself.
Pour about 50 grams into the toilet bowl so that the loose powder sticks to the most polluted places. Leave the acid to act for half an hour or even overnight. Then brush the toilet bowl and flush. It should go easily and briskly, without unnecessary scrubbing and the use of other expensive special products and toilet gels.
