Israeli Minister of National Security urges Netanyahu to stop possible ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah
Israel’s National Security Minister, the far-right Itamar Ben Gvir, urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to stop a possible ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah.
“Precisely now, when Hezbollah is defeated and longs for a ceasefire, it is forbidden to stop. As I warned before in Gaza, I warn now too: Mr. Prime Minister, it is not too late to stop this agreement! “We must continue until absolute victory!” writes the minister through the social network X (formerly Twitter).
In Ben Gvir’s opinion, “it is a big mistake” to sign a pact that stops the clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which to date have left thousands dead, displaced and destroyed.
The official, known for his Jewish supremacist and anti-Arab ideology, insisted that Israel “will lose a historic opportunity to eradicate Hezbollah” if it decides to stop its offensive at this time. “I understand all the limitations and reasons, but it is still a serious mistake. We must listen to the commanders who fight in the field, listen to the heads of the authorities,” he adds.
His statements come despite increased international pressure in favor of a truce, after more than two months of intense clashes. Ben Gvir also assured on September 4 that he would intervene in any possible ceasefire agreement with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
In recent hours, Hezbollah has stepped up rocket fire at Israel, firing more than 350 projectiles on Sunday, including missiles and drones. These attacks affected not only the north, but also the center of the country, where sirens sounded repeatedly throughout the day and several people were injured. (Efe)
