Prime Minister has support from companies and the social sector. Regarding Gouveia and Melo, there is a “preference” for the PSD.
Luis Montenegro warns that the State does not solve everything. And, therefore, it has support from companies and the social sector.
In his closing speech at the Manuel António da Mota Prize ceremony, in Porto, the Prime Minister highlighted everyone’s contribution: “We cannot have stigmas in society that take away the contribution that we can all make to the lives of others”.
“This award, or these awards, the work of foundation, the work of companies, often mean the opportunity that the State alone is unable to offer“.
“And as Prime Minister, as coordinator of the Government’s work, I wanted you to know that we will not stop counting on the private sector, on the social sector, to fulfill the public service and leave no one behind”, he continued, this Sunday.
Montenegro highlighted that “We cannot afford to think that the State solves everything and thinking that a company or social institution does not fulfill a public service – because they do.”
Gouveia Melo and “preferably”
Before this event, Luís Montenegro was asked about the possibility of support Gouveia e Melo in the presidential elections in 2026.
The PSD president recalled that, at the party’s most recent congress, he presented a strategy motion that prioritizes “our political space”.
“Preferably from one of our militantsand this is what we are going to do”, concluded the prime minister.
The issue arose because the admiral will have a Government that does not want to be reappointed as Chief of Staff of the Navy.
Regarding the successor de Gouveia e Melo, the Government will “decide within the timings set out in the Law”.
