Gleisi says that his mandate will end in the middle of next year, but Magela, who was once general secretary of the PT, defends bringing forward the election of the new president to April at the latest.
To do this, he uses two arguments: the mandate of Gleisi and the other state and municipal directors has already been extended, and, mainly, a new command needs to have more time to organize the 2026 elections.
“The new leadership needs time to dialogue with President Lula and other parties, within a political situation that promises to be very difficult in 2026. The sooner the new president takes office, the better”, he states.
Last weekend, he made the proposal in a group of the PT Movement, the second largest trend in the party, of which Magela is one of the main representatives. He also made contact with the current secretary general of the party, Henrique Fontana.
