The US president and the French president are expected to announce a ceasefire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel within 36 hours, in line with existing plans, four senior Lebanese sources said on Monday, Reuters reported.
Ceasefire talks in Lebanon have made significant progress, the French presidency said.
“We continue to work with (…) our American partners in this direction (…) we hope that all involved will seize this opportunity as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but the US suggested the truce be monitored by a five-nation commission.
Earlier, the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat reported that Biden and Macron would declare a 60-day ceasefire on Tuesday.
Israel’s security cabinet is meeting tomorrow, while Lebanon maintains that there are no “serious obstacles” to the implementation of the two-month ceasefire.
