This Sunday, the Public Security Police (PSP) alerted the population to the nine most used methods of telephone fraud in Portugal.
According to the PSP, nine different methods were identified, which have been the most used, corresponding to teasingsolely and exclusively, made through telephone.
Among the most used methods, according to the PSP, are fraud, when “the criminal pretends to be a family member [normalmente filho]via WhatsApp message, requests payment to repair a broken cell phone, to buy a new one or simply to pay a supposed unexpected and urgent expense.”
In the case of , faced with an advertisement, at a much more attractive price than usual in the market, the victim is asked to pay the “down payment” for the fictitious rent.
According to the PSP, payment through the system is also used in scams, which are normally triggered after an advertisement on the internet for the sale of an item, in which the fraudster requests that payment be made via MB Way, giving instructions for the payment himself. effect, leading the victim to provide access codes to withdraw the amount established in the business from an ATM.
A job at a reputable company, with an attractive salary, is offered to the victim, but it is another scam. The fraudsters ask the victim for a type of “down payment” for various expenses.
It is also one of the most used scams, namely when the scammer asks for the victim’s documentation and also requests a sum of money to pay fees and complete the process.
Fraud related to occurs when the swindler places an ad on online vehicle buying and selling platforms, at a much more attractive price than usual on the market, and the criminal asks the victim for money to transport the car or other expenses. . Another scam occurs when the criminal presents himself as an employee of an accredited institution, doing so through telephone contact, a fake website, email or written message, indicating that the victim has fines or other outstanding issues to settle.

People should avoid making any monetary transfer, especially in the name of someone other than the one with whom the business is being established, and be suspicious of any apparently very profitable and advantageous transaction, according to the PSP.
The population should not carry out any action on applications that allow the transfer of money if they are not familiar with its operation and the procedures to be adopted, indicated the PSP, highlighting that care must be taken in the case of an unknown number to be contacted, identifying themselves as a family member or friend, and asking them questions that only they would know how to answer.
