Ukraine: President Zelensky believes the war could end in 2025
The Ukrainian president said on Saturday that he believes it is possible to end the Russian invasion next year.
“When will the war end? When Russia wants the war to end. When the US takes a tougher stance. When the countries of the south stand by Ukraine and support the end of the war,” Zelensky said in a discussion with foreign correspondents in Kiev during the third international conference on food security, called “Grain from Ukraine”.
Zelensky expressed the belief that when these conditions exist, decisions will be launched sooner or later. “This road will not be easy, but I am convinced that we have all the possibilities to succeed next year,” the president of Ukraine said, as reported by the Ukrinform news agency.
“We are open to proposals from leaders from African, Asian and Arab states,” Zelensky continued. “I would also like to hear the proposals of the new US president. I believe we will learn them in January and we will have a plan to end this war,” he added.
During the election campaign, US President-elect Donald Trump had repeatedly argued that he wanted to limit the large-scale military support that Washington offers to Kiev.
Since winning the November 5 presidential election, however, Trump has avoided repeating his claim that he could end the war within 24 hours.
