Iran-backed terrorist group said it fired drones and missiles at naval base and military target in the south
SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – Hezbollah fired a wave of at least 150 rockets at Israel this Sunday (24). According to Israeli media, most were intercepted, but one building near Tel Aviv was hit.
In a statement, the Iran-backed terrorist group said it had fired drones and missiles at a naval base and a military target in the south. The retaliation comes after the Israeli Army attacked the center of Beirut, capital of Lebanon, on Saturday (23), which killed at least 20 people.
In addition to the bombing that sought to kill Muhammad Haydar, head of operations for the Lebanese militia, Israel also attacked the southern suburbs of Beirut controlled by Hezbollah, leaving 14 dead in this region alone, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Israeli authorities reported that alarm sirens sounded in several regions of the country, including the suburbs of Tel Aviv. According to Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross, at least four people were injured by shrapnel, one of them in a very serious condition.
There were no reports from Israel of damage to the sites, but broadcaster Kan showed an apartment damaged by rocket fire in Petah Tikvah, east of Tel Aviv. Images broadcast by the MDA medical service showed burning cars in the same location.
Israel warned on social media that it planned to bomb Hezbollah facilities in south Beirut ahead of Sunday’s attacks that security sources in Lebanon said demolished two apartment blocks.
The country launched an offensive against Hezbollah in September, bombarding the south, the Bekaa Valley and the southern suburbs of Beirut with airstrikes after nearly a year of hostilities sparked by the Gaza war. The war has displaced more than 1 million people in Lebanon.
Israel says its goal is to ensure the return home of tens of thousands of people evacuated from the north due to rocket attacks by Hezbollah, which opened fire in support of Hamas at the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
