Vasco suffered its fourth consecutive defeat in the Brazilian Championship. At Neo Química Arena, the team lost to Corinthians 3-1. As a result, Rafael Paiva, Cruzmaltino’s coach, was fired. The decision was communicated after the game this Sunday (24/11) by Pedrinho, president of the club.

Who will be Vasco’s coach until the end of the Brasileirão?
Technical director Felipe “Maestro” will lead the team in the last games of this year. There are only three rounds left until the end of the Brazilian Championship – and the season.
Felipe has experience as a coach at Tigres, Bangu (in two spells), Confiança and Volta Redonda. He has been Vasco’s technical director since June 2024.

During a press conference, Pedrinho confirmed the information, claiming that Felipe will continue as interim for the three remaining games.
– So we have a goal, which is three games. And the word I didn’t use for Paiva right after this sequence, he was hired, but internally. For athletes and with a coach’s salary. Him and his entire commission. That said, with the change, we thought it through and will place Felipe as interim coach. He will play the remaining three games. This was the best decision in several ways. Felipe is a very capable guy, he has all the CBF licenses, which entitles him to sit on the bench. He’s a guy who is involved in training every day. He knows all the athletes. Individual characteristics and personality. And for the final stretch it would be a risk to bring in a young coach. Since we need representation to achieve our goals – he highlighted.

Why was Rafael Paiva fired?
Even with four consecutive defeats in the Brasileirão, Vasco is not at risk of relegation. The team, however, moved away from the fight for a place in the Copa Libertadores, which was one of the main goals of the season.
When announcing his resignation, Pedrinho claimed that the decision “was not easy, but it was necessary”.
– Just to inform you that Paiva will not remain. I want to publicly thank him for the work he did during this period, which was not the first. Before me, he already had another spell, where he also faced the team in a difficult situation and delivered comfortably. With me, he caught the team in a complicated situation, led them to a Copa do Brasil semi-final, and reached 43 points early. But it is a decision that has to be made. No one is happy, but we realized that it has to be done. We realize that it is necessary – said the club president.
