The spark no longer ignited. On Sunday, what had been apparent for a long time was confirmed: the ÖVP and state governor Christopher Drexler suffered massive losses in Styria. The blue high continued after the National Council election in Styria. The FPÖ with frontman Mario Kunasek left the blacks behind even more clearly than predicted and was able to secure first place in a Styrian state election for the first time. Kunasek will now automatically be given the task of forming a government. (see knowledge) Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the FPÖ will also nominate the state governor. Before the election, Drexler declared that he wanted to continue the black-red coalition, SPÖ lead candidate Anton Lang also preferred an extension of the former grand coalition.
