The President of the United States, , will attend the inauguration in January, he announced this Monday (25), despite the Republican not having participated in his four years ago. “The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whoever won the elections. He and the First Lady will fulfill this promise and will be present,” spokesman Andrew Bates told reporters.
“He sees it as an important demonstration of commitment to our democratic values and to honoring the will of the people, as we continue to provide an orderly and effective transition,” he added. Biden invited the president-elect to the White House days after the November 5 elections, in which Trump defeated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. The 82-year-old president withdrew from running for re-election in July and declared his support for Kamala after her disastrous performance in a televised debate led Democrats to question whether he met the health and mental agility requirements for the role.
