But there is still another issue that needs to be highlighted: fake websites that appear at this time of year.
On Black Friday last year, the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) detected 67 administrative offense cases.
According to Check Point Software, this year and in relation to the same period in 2023, 89% more websites have already been created since the beginning of the month.
The cybersecurity company told (JN) that, of these sites, 3% were classified as “suspicious or malicious”.
To JN, Rui Duro, manager of Check Point in Portugal, considers that these numbers represent “a threat to consumers”therefore recommending “increased attention from users”.
“The number of acquisitions and transactions tends to increase, the hustle and bustle of traders is greater and it is one of the periods in which criminal groups take the opportunity to launch campaigns to misuse payment methods”, warned Carlos Cabreiro from the Police to the morning newspaper.
