Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was moved this Monday (25) when he heard former Tourism Minister Gilson Machado (PL), who is an accordion player, play a song in his honor. Without citing the most recent indictment by the Federal Police, Bolsonaro said that his “defect was playing fair”.
“Some say that my fault was playing fair in a country where there was a lot hidden, but it was worth it. If I leave today, it was worth it. Thank you Brazil and thank you my God”, said the former president with a choked voice in a video posted on social media.
Bolsonaro said in the publication that he is leaving São Miguel dos Milagres, on the coast of Alagoas, to return to Brasília. “A movie plays in our heads. What the elections were, the miracle of life, setting up the ministry, counting on friends and leaving a legacy, which is recognized anywhere in our Brazil”, he stated.
“From the world”, added Machado. “Even outside Brazil too. This has our mark of freedom, of [liberdade] of expression, self-defense, family. Everything weighs, this mark remained”, added Bolsonaro.
The former minister began the video by praising the Bolsonaro government. “Never in the history of the Northeast has a government done what this man did. Northeasterners know how to recognize this,” said Machado.
He played the accordion and sang the following song for the former president: “Transposition, the end of water trucks, irrigation. It is the title to the land for the worker, it gave its value. Brazil’s money went to the people and did not go to Cuba. He is the captain of the people and he will return again. He is from God, you can trust, he respects his family, he will not deceive you. The people’s captain, who will win again. The like of him never existed. It is the salvation of our Brazil.”
Bolsonaro was indicted for alleged coup plot
On the 21st, the Federal Police indicted former president Jair Bolsonaro and 36 other people, including allies and military personnel, in the investigation investigating an alleged attempted coup d’état in the country. According to the PF, the planning included the assassinations of President Lula (PT), vice Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
The PF attributes the crimes of attempted coup d’état, attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and criminal organization to the former president. At the time, Bolsonaro told the portal Metropolises that Moraes “conducts the entire investigation, adjusts statements, arrests without complaint, carries out evidentiary fishing and has very creative assistance” and that “he does everything the law does not say”.
During the trip to São Miguel dos Milagres, he mocked the investigation. “This coup story is absurd. Are you going to stage a coup with a retired general and four senior officers? For God’s sake. Who was coordinating this? Where are the troops? Where are the Armed Forces? Don’t put a horn on a horse’s head,” said the former president while cutting his hair.
“Coups now no longer happen with tanks, they happen with taxis. And it seems that the kidnapping didn’t happen because there wasn’t a taxi at the time. For God’s sake. This creative PF by Alexandre de Moraes is a joke”, he added.
Bolsonaro was indicted in two other investigations. The first indictment occurred in March 2024 in the investigation into the alleged adulteration of the vaccination card against Covid-19, with the insertion of false data into the Ministry of Health system. In this case, the PF accused the former president of the crime of criminal association.
The second was in July this year in the case of Saudi jewelry. At the time, Bolsonaro was indicted for the alleged crimes of embezzlement (appropriation of a public asset), money laundering and criminal association. Bolsonaro denies any wrongdoing.
