From 2025, bettors must transfer data and resources to sites with the “.bet.br” extension
The (Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance), this Tuesday (26.Nov.2024), new rules for the migration of bettors to the regulated online betting market in Brazil. SPA/MF Ordinance No. 1,857 will come into effect on January 1, 2025.
The measure facilitates the transition of bettors’ values and data from current sites to those authorized by the Ministry of Finance. The initiative aims to increase the protection of Brazilian bettors and ensure a safe and transparent migration.
Starting next year, only sites with the extension “.bet.br” will be able to offer online betting legally in Brazil. The companies responsible for these sites must be authorized and headquartered in the country.
To carry out the migration, the bettor needs to authorize the transfer of their resources and data to the new website. The process includes registering facial biometrics and providing a current account for moving funds and receiving prizes.
If the bettor does not authorize the transfer or the company operating the website does not obtain the necessary authorization, the amounts must be returned to the user by December 31, 2024.
Bets still open can be canceled, with a full refund of the amount bet, or kept under the custody of the authorized company.
