French company claims that the stock avoided a “relevant impact” on sales; CEO of the supermarket chain published a letter retracting criticism of Brazilian meat
He said he expected protein supplies to resume in the coming days after the CEO of the French company, Alexandre Bompard, retracted criticisms made of Brazilian meat.
In a statement, the company stated that there was a shortage of some meat cuts in specific Atacadão markets, which also belong to the French company. He stated, however, that the stock avoided a “relevant impact” in sales during the boycott of Brazilian meatpackers.
“The Carrefour Brasil group is working intensely to resolve the situation with suppliers and expects supply to normalize in the short term to mitigate impacts on consumers,” said the company in a statement released this Tuesday (26.nov). Here is the document (PDF – 138 kB).
BOYCOTT CARREFOUR
Meatpackers such as aea had suspended the supply of meat to Carrefour stores in Brazil in retaliation for the company’s CEO’s decision to suspend the purchase of proteins produced in Mercosur.
This Tuesday (Nov 26), Bompard wrote a letter retracting the criticism. The document was delivered by the French ambassador to Brazil, Emmanuel Lenain, to the Minister of Agriculture, and advisors to the president (PT). To them a of the text (PDF – 70 kB).
Because of this, according to the Poder360meatpacking plants once again have normalized relations with the Carrefour chain here in the country. In other words, they will normally supply their products to French supermarkets in Brazilian cities.
In the case of France, the situation remains unchanged. Carrefour will not buy meat from producers in Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay), but this makes little difference. France already imports very little animal protein from these Latin American countries. Companies in France are under pressure from the local agricultural sector, which is in line with the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.
