Club president is accused of “reckless management”; impeachment will be voted on on Thursday (Nov 28)
Last Monday night (November 24, 2024), Cori (Corinthians Guidance Council) unanimously voted on a recommendation for the impeachment of President Augusto Melo, citing “reckless management”. The Council will decide on the president’s dismissal next Thursday (28.Nov.2024). If approved, Melo will step down temporarily while members vote to decide his future.
The accounts for the 2nd quarter of 2024 were rejected due to lack of documents and inconsistent information. Cori highlighted the absence of audited balance sheets and other necessary documents, which should be provided by the board. The decision, by 13 votes to 0, is not related to the process involving the contract with the club’s former sponsor, VaideBet.
The Council is made up of former club presidents, life members and advisors elected every 3 years. Although Melo obtained a majority in Cori at the beginning of the year, his political base quickly weakened. The body’s recommendation now depends on Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the Deliberative Council, who must forward it to the club’s Ethics Committee.
If the Deliberative Council approves the impeachment by a majority, Augusto will leave office immediately. The process will proceed to a General Assembly, which will be the final stage of dismissal, involving club members. Until the definition, Augusto will remain away from presidential duties.

Other Side
The president of Corinthians, Augusto Melo, classified the impeachment process that will be voted on by the Deliberative Council as a “coup”. According to him, the current management has bothered certain groups by professionalizing the club and ending unfavorable contracts.
In an interview with the program Arena SBT Augusto refuted Cori’s recommendation, stating that the body responsible for ethical issues is the Ethics Commission. “This is a scam. They tried in the elections, now they tried again. The fans are on our side, as are the players, who surprised us with their public support. We are uncomfortable because we changed ruinous contracts for Corinthians”, declared.
On Saturday (November 23, 2024), several players from the men’s squad expressed public support for President Augusto Melo. Despite the impeachment process with a vote scheduled for Thursday (November 28, 2024), the athletes praised the leader for his stance “fair, sincere and professional” throughout the year.
Names from the cast such as Fagner, Talles Magno, Igor Coronado, Yuri Alberto, André Ramalho and other members of the team released an official note reinforcing their alignment with the president.
“With all the difficulties faced throughout the year, he has been fair, honest and professional in honoring the club’s commitments. Corinthians and their Faithful Fan are above any political dispute”, said the athletes in the statement.
In addition to the players, the club’s organized fans also took a stand against impeachment, arguing that the process could harm planning for the 2025 season. The team is going through a good moment in the Brazilian Championship, with a chance of securing a place in the next edition of the World Cup. Liberators.
