This Tuesday (26), the national president of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), Sérgio Nobre, called on activists to demonstrate, on December 10, against the possibility of granting amnesty to those involved in the acts of the 8th of December. January.
According to the call, the demonstrations will be held in Brazilian capitals, “organized by trade union and social movements, entities in the progressive field”.
As justification for carrying out the act, the president of the CUT cites the Federal Police (PF) report that, last week, indicted former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and 36 other people on suspicion of involvement in an alleged “plan of blow.”
According to the PF, the supposed plan even included the assassination of President Lula (PT), his vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes.
According to the president of the CUT, the objective of the act is to exert popular pressure for the trial, conviction and imprisonment of those accused.
CUT wants the Amnesty PL to be archived
The CUT also wants to press for the filing of Bill (PL) 2,858/2022, which provides amnesty to those arrested on January 8th.
“It is very clear what happened, and it was serious. Brazil was very close to a setback like the one that occurred in 1964”, said Sérgio Nobre.
The president of the CUT also defended the union as a “pillar of democracy”, the strengthening of institutions and said that the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), especially Minister Alexandre de Moraes, must be supported.
“It is important to defend the institutions because the people who are there will pass by and whoever comes has to be aware of the importance that these democratic institutions have for the country. Democracy is here to stay in Brazil and must be defended every single day. It is a fundamental agenda of the Brazilian people, the working class, the CUT”, he said.
“In the National Congress, every now and then, we lose a right. It’s not the Congress we want, but there’s no democracy without Parliament. We need to defend our parliamentarians, we need to defend the STF, which, by the way, has been very courageous in defending democracy, we have to be in solidarity with Alexandre de Moraes and all the ministers who have been firm in the fight against fascism, in the fight to the blow”, he added.
