A Formula 1the main category of world motorsport, announced on Monday (25) that it will feature a new team on the grid from 2026: the North American multinational giant.
The company will have its own team, through Cadillacits luxury and high-performance car brand. It is the first time since 2016 that a new group has become part of the competition.
According to Formula 1, in addition to participating on the grid, General Motors must also supply engines for the category in the future. No date was given.

“General Motors and Cadillac’s commitment to this project is an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport. We look forward to seeing the progress and growth of this entry, certain of the collaboration and full support of all parties involved,” said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.

Cadillac requested its entry into the category in 2023. Since then, according to a statement released this Tuesday (26), it has been assembling an experienced team to work with. Mario Andrettithe last North American F1 champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board.

Mario Andretti is one of the greatest drivers in the history of motorsport. Born on February 28, 1940, in Montona, Italy, Andretti emigrated to the United States as a child. He had a career in Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR. He won the famous Indianapolis 500 race in 1969. In F1, he was world champion in 1978, with Lotus.
Mark Reuss, president of GM, highlighted the company’s commitment to the sport. “We will compete with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for racing fans around the world. This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technological leadership at an unprecedented level.”
The brand also said that it plans develop your own racing car and engines until the end of the decade, aligning its participation with technological objectives, including advances in electrification e automotive software.
