Israel warned against breaking the ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Israeli Defense Chief Yisrael Kac warned on Tuesday that any violation of the proposed ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement would cause Israel to use force. TASR informs about it with reference to the report of the AFP agency.
“If you don’t act, we will, by force,” Kac told UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. He added that Israel would apply “zero tolerance” in defending its security interests in the future.
“Every house restored in southern Lebanon and used as a terrorist base will be destroyed, every rearmament and regrouping of terrorists will be attacked, every attempt to transfer weapons will be thwarted, and every threat to our forces or our citizens will be immediately eliminated,” Kac said.
In a statement, Israel’s Ministry of Defense added that the previous situation, where Hezbollah was able to build military capabilities in southern Lebanon despite the presence of UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL), will not be tolerated.
Fighting between the Israeli army and the pro-Iranian Lebanese movement Hezbollah escalated sharply at the end of September. The draft of the ceasefire agreement will be discussed by the Israeli security cabinet on Tuesday, AFP reminds. Washington expressed optimism that a deal was close.
