Imagine seeing your son wearing the shirt of the team you support, playing against the team that revealed you, in your hometown, with your flag kissing the World Cup cup in the background. This was the scene that came true for Lionel Messi, when Thiago Messi played in an under-13 tournament match in Argentina for Inter Miami, against Newell’s Old Boys.
The references go even further – alongside the under-13 Messi, there was a teammate known for that name. Benjamin Suárez, son of Luis Suárez, Messi’s former teammate at Barcelona and current teammate at Inter Miami, played in the Newell’s Cup alongside Thiago.
In Rosario, the city where the Argentine star was born, the two young men played against the cup holders, Newell’s Old Boys, in a match full of references. Now 12 years old, Thiago Messi intends to become a football player, and took his first step last Monday (25).
Thiago’s father wasn’t there to see it, but his presence was marked in several images of the star spread across the stands. Young Messi’s audience was made up of his mother and Lionel’s wife, Antonela, and the Argentine’s parents, Jorge and Celia.
Despite the emotion, the start was not just glorious, and Thiago and Benjamin’s team lost 1-0.
