Ana Tereza Basilio won on the “OAB Unida e Renovada” ticket, with 60.1% of the valid votes; Marcello Oliveira came in 2nd place

The OAB-RJ (Brazilian Bar Association of Rio de Janeiro) elected this Monday (25.Nov.2024) its 1st female president after 94 years of its foundation. Ana Tereza Basilio, from the “OAB Unida e Renovada” ticket, obtained 31,810 votes, which represents 60.1% of the total. She will lead the entity for the 2025-2027 period.

“It was a great achievement for women lawyers, because we broke the OAB’s glass ceiling after 94 years. And it is also the first time in Brazil that a ticket headed by two women wins in a sectional. There will be two women on the OAB-RJ Board of Directors. I’m very happy and we’re going to have a great management, God willing,”declared Basilio.

Basilio’s vice-president will be Sylvia Drummond. 2nd place in the dispute was Marcello Oliveira, from the “Reviravolta #OspiraçãoDeVerdade” ticket, who achieved 39.9% of the valid votes.

Ana Tereza Basilio’s work at OAB-RJ dates back to 2000, when she was elected sectional counselor, a position she held until 2006. During this period, she created and presided over the Mediation and Arbitration Chamber and was president of the Commission of Law Societies of the Order. , in addition to actively participating in several other thematic commissions. Furthermore, she founded the OAB-RJ Mediation Court.

Since 2019, he has held the vice-presidency of the OAB-RJ, where he works to combat the slowness of the Judiciary and high legal costs. She also presides over the entity’s Procedural Speed ​​Committee and is the creator of the Legal Mentoring Project, which provides professional training.
