The best 3D pen of 2024
Our expert has chosen The Italian Home model for its ease of use, versatility and the good results it provides. In addition, it offers the added bonus of having fluorescent filaments that provide a more original touch to the creations.
Have you ever dreamed of bringing your ideas and drawings to life in three dimensions? Since I was little I have always loved drawing and, although it is not my greatest skill, I usually do it often to relax and put aside the stress of everyday life. When I discovered the existence of 3D pencils, which allow you to create all kinds of three-dimensional figures through molten plastic, I couldn’t resist trying them to make this comparison. Although at first it took me a bit to get the hang of them, with the passage of time and use I learned to make cool designs: flowers, small animals, keychains…
In this analysis, I have explored the possibilities of 3D pencils most outstanding on the market, evaluating their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, to help you find the ideal model according to your needs and budget. Although the products I have analyzed are for children, they can also be used as an adult if your goal is to get started in this technique.
How we have chosen and tested the products
I have dedicated a total of two weeks to testing the performance of each 3D pencil participating in this comparison. To do this, I only had to do one thing: draw! The truth is that the tests have been quite fun, although at first I got a little frustrated when I saw that the designs I was trying to make looked a little ugly. But with practice and patience I was able to make more original drawings.
Additionally, I looked for inspiration online to make my designs better. With each of them I have carried out both the same test and different ones, since I wanted to recreate the same drawing with all the pencils to check which one looked better with. When analyzing and evaluating them, I have taken into account the following aspects:
- Mode of use. If it needs to be connected to the power, how it is started, how long does it take for the filament to heat up…
- Controls. Does it include functions to adjust temperature and speed?
- Design. It refers to the shape and comfort in its use, as well as the material with which it is made, its dimensions and its weight.
- Finish. What type of 3D drawings can be created? Are they resistant? This will depend on the type of tip and the filament material used.
With two fluorescent colors: The Italian Home 3D pen
Who is it for: who is looking for the best-selling 3D pencil on Amazon.
Why we have chosen it: I decided to try this device because it is the best-selling 3D pen on Amazon and I wanted to check if its features really justify it. First of all, I think it is an interesting option for those looking for an accessible and easy-to-use tool. It has a compact and ergonomic design that fits comfortably in the hand during use and is not too complex to use. It works through charging and it is necessary to have the device connected to the power while using it.
It comes with an illustrated guide and several colored filaments, including some fluorescent ones, which is an advantage for those looking to experiment from the first moment because you can create cooler designs. It also has two finger protectors, which are shaped like plastic thimbles, which I found quite useful to avoid burning myself while doing the tests.
In terms of use, the pen has speed and temperature controls that allow you to adapt the flow of the material, something useful for both beginners and more advanced users looking for precision. It also has a simple and safe filament loading system, a detail that, although basic, makes the difference when you want to dedicate more time to creating and less worrying about possible technical problems.
When it comes time to start using it, I find that the temperature and speed controls are intuitive and it doesn’t take too long to learn how to control them. Furthermore, since it comes with a manual, you just have to review it well before starting to create designs to get the most out of them. I made different drawings with it and, although the first ones were not completely perfect, then I got the hang of it and got better designs.
Its weak points: you have to be careful if it is used for a long time because it tends to get hot.

With templates to paint: CAELLUMA 3D pencil
Who is it for: people who want a 3D pen with good accessories.
Why we have chosen it: This 3D pencil has a similar design to the previously reviewed model, but comes with several accessories, including scissors, a guide, and a stencil notebook, making it a complete kit for beginners. The inclusion of the template notebook is a success, since it helped me a lot to have a clear reference when creating figures, and it made the learning process much easier for me. The pen includes several spools of filament and one of various colors (12 in total).
The user experience is good, as the speed and temperature controls are easy to adjust, plus it is quite lightweight and its ergonomic shape makes it fit comfortably in your hand. However, I found the filaments to be of poorer quality than those of The Italian House 3D pen, as they got a little stuck at one point and, as with the other model, it gets hot if used for a long time.
Its weak points: the filaments get stuck sometimes.

With OLED screen: Kreativkids premium 3D pen
Who is it for: those who want a slightly more advanced model.
Why we have chosen it: The main feature of this 3D pen that makes it different from the rest is that it has an OLED screen, which provides more precise control, which is very useful when looking for a more detailed result in projects. And it shows information about the temperature and extrusion speed of the filament.
This function makes it an option designed especially for more advanced users who are looking for a pencil capable of adapting to different types of projects and materials. However, if you want to use it to get started in this technique, I think it is not worth investing the almost 70 euros that it costs, since it is a little more difficult to learn to use and it is not that its user experience is much better than the that is obtained with more economical models.
It offers an ergonomic design that fits well in the hand and is quite light to handle. The pen also has a safety feature that causes it to switch to standby mode after 3 minutes of non-use. And like the other models, it must be used connected to power via a USB charger. This model comes with 10 colors and a storage case.
Its weak points: I think it’s too expensive.

With 20 colors: FreeSculpt 3D pen
Who is it for: people who want a simple 3D pencil, but with various colors.
Why we have chosen it: It has a design quite similar to the first two models analyzed: light and ergonomic, which allows it to be handled easily. Although it does not include a screen, it has basic controls to adjust the speed and temperature, which can be regulated between 160 and 230º. In addition, it is the model that has the most colored cables included: a total of 20. It works with a USB charger.
However, the user experience did not seem as good to me as with the other models, since in some tests the filaments did not melt well and the drawing remained bunched up. Additionally, as with other devices of this type, it overheats if used for a long period of time.
Its weak points: the filaments do not melt well.
