The financing model for the new nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice will also depend on who will be its contractor. This was stated in Bratislava by the Minister of the Economy of the SR Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD) at the professional conference Jadro – the energy future of Slovakia in connection with last week’s decision of the SR government to start the processes related to the construction of the NJZ. According to her, the public procurement process for the construction of the NJZ should be launched next year, and the contract with the supplier should be signed in April 2027.
“The government material outlines what the different variants are, how we can finance a new nuclear source. We describe the possibility of financing NJZ from state resources, not only from the resources of the Slovak Republic, but also from the public finances of other countries. It also comes into consideration private financing or a hybrid model. According to the experience we have from Slovenské elektrární (SE), the financing model cannot be developed in a month or two. The financing model will partly depend on who will be the final contractor of the entire nuclear power plant and what financing options it will bring,” she specified.
“We know from SE experience that the financing process is modeled for one and a half to two years. This will certainly be the subject of further analysis and decisions that await us in the coming months. I will definitely choose the best model for the Slovak Republic,” added.
According to Sakova, the total cost of building the NJZ is currently estimated at ten billion euros, based on the experience of the Czech Republic and Hungary. On November 20, the head of the Department of Economy pointed out that construction costs increase by 8-10% every year if the construction of such a resource is postponed. This is also why the current government should have ambitious goals regarding the construction schedule.
