Although initial information said that the entire family from Slovakia was alive, the man did not survive the capsize of the cruise ship.
On Monday (November 25), a cruise ship sank in Egypt, with a family of three from Slovakia on board. According to information, only the mother and her son survived. The close family confirmed to Markíza TV that the father was identified as dead.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that two Slovaks from the cruise ship are currently on the grounds of the Slovak Embassy in Cairo. “Our colleagues are providing them with the assistance and other cooperation they will need – primarily by issuing replacement travel documents so that, if possible, they can return home as soon as possible,” the ministry says.
“Unfortunately, in the case of the third Slovak citizen who was on board the ship, the Egyptian authorities officially confirmed his death today and sent our embassy a notification of his death.”
According to publicized information, it is known so far that the rescuers pulled 4 lifeless bodies of unidentified victims from the sea. However, the search for the missing continues.
High waves and strong winds
The Sea Story boat with 31 tourists and 13 crew members on board capsized near Sataya Reef. It sank within five to seven minutes due to high waves and strong winds, which subsequently led to the closure of sea traffic.
The ship began a six-day voyage on Sunday 24 November in Port Ghalib and was due to arrive in Hurghada on Friday 29 November.
However, on Saturday, November 23, the Egyptian Meteorological Office issued a warning of rough water and high waves in the Red Sea and advised not to sail in the following days.
