Man may face a possible extradition to the United States.
A man wanted on terrorism charges in the United States for two bombings in the San Francisco area appeared in court in London on Tuesday after being captured after 20 years on the run.
Daniel Andreas San Diego46 years old, one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives (North American federal police), was arrested on Monday in Wales, reported the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
San Diego is accused, in the USA, of having placed two bombs that exploded about an hour aparton August 28, 2003, on the campus of a biotechnology company in Emeryville, California.
It is also accused of detonating another bomb at a nutritional products company in Pleasantonin California, a month later.
Os bombings didn’t hurt anyonebut authorities said the biotech bomb was intended to harm first responders.
“The arrest of Daniel San Diego after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two attacks in the San Francisco area shows that, regardless of how long it takes, the FBI will find him and hold him accountable,” said the FBI director, Christopher Wray, in a statement.
“There is a right way and a wrong way to express your opinions in our country, and resorting to violence and destruction of property is not the right way,” he added.
O FBI had San Diego under surveillance when he parked his car near downtown San Francisco on October 6, 2003 and disappeared into a public transit station. Federal police have not seen him again, although they said there have been several reported sightings around the world.
In 2009, San Diego became the first person suspected of domestic terrorism to be added to the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list.
Photos of the suspect appeared on billboards from California to Massachusetts, along the Canadian border and in Times Square. Appeared several times on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted”.
The FBI revealed that San Diego worked as a computer network specialistit was a skilled sailor and it was Known for being armed.
The NCA said that arrested San Diego on a property near woodland in the Conwy areain Wales, which is close to the coast. No other details were provided.
San Diego was remanded in detention after making his first appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to face the extradition to the United States.
