Braga Netto’s advisor had a plan to annul the election with the note: ‘Lula won’t climb the ramp’

He pointed out that those around General Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense of the government of (PL), prepared what he called “operation 142” to annul the election, extend mandates, and change all ministers of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and prevent the president(PT) from climbing the ramp for the ceremony.

The organization of the plan was found in a manuscript on the table used at the PL headquarters in Brasília by Colonel Flávio Peregrino, a long-time advisor to Braga Netto and a man in the general’s strict confidence. The document was in a folder called “important memories”. The information is in the PF report, opened this Tuesday (26), by decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The investigation points out that Bolsonaro “planned, acted and directly and effectively controlled” the coup attempt after losing the 2022 election.

The name of the operation alludes to article 142 of the Constitution, which deals with the use of the Armed Forces and started to be used by Bolsonarists with a distorted interpretation to encourage institutional rupture. The manuscript recorded “interruption of the transition process”, “annulment of the elections”, “replacement of the entire TSE” and “preparation of new elections”. It also had the note “Lula does not climb the ramp”.

“The document demonstrates that Braga Netto and its surroundings had a clear coup intent, with the aim of subverting the Democratic Rule of Law, using an anomalous interpretation of art. 142 of the CF, in order to try to legitimize the coup d’état”, says the PF report opened this Tuesday (26). Investigators point out that the document was produced between November and December 2022. Therefore, after the election in which Bolsonaro and Braga Netto, vice-president, were defeated. Military personnel have not yet commented on the PF’s appointment.
