This Wednesday (27), the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), said that the announcement about the package of measures to cut government spending should be announced within days or hours.

“We should have all the fiscal adjustment measures here in the next few days or hours, ensuring strict compliance with the fiscal framework. The whole world has gone into debt due to Covid, a big effort must be made and Brazil will strictly comply with the fiscal issue”, said Alckmin.

The statement was made during Alckmin’s participation in an industrial sector event.

The expectation is that President Lula (PT) will call the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), to present the plan this Wednesday.

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, is expected to participate in the meeting. Despite expectations, there is still no official confirmation of the meeting.

Pacheco defended “coordinated effort”

This Tuesday (26), Pacheco stated that the public spending cut package should reach Congress and that some as long as it is part of a “national program”

“If we identify that a linear cut in spending on middle activities needs to be made, I have no problem joining a national spending cut program, as long as the proper functioning of Congress and other institutions is maintained, as long as this is a national commitment”, said the president of the Senate.

Pacheco also defended a coordinated effort similar to that carried out in the approval of the Tax Reform.

On Monday (25), Haddad said he had a meeting with President Lula (PT) to conclude the pending issues regarding the public spending cut package. Without setting a date for the announcement, he said that the measures will be presented this week.
