Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Lebanon’s pro-Iranian movement Hezbollah wants to study a ceasefire agreement in the armed conflict with Israel. He wants to do so before the Lebanese government signs the agreement on Wednesday. In an interview with al-Jazeera television, the representative of the political committee of the Hezbollah movement, Mahmoud Kamati, was quoted by the news website The Times of Israel (TOI), writes TASR.

Kamati made it clear that Hezbollah does not trust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and wants to make sure it is not deceived by the deal.

“Before the (Lebanese) government signs it tomorrow (Wednesday), we need to review the points that Netanyahu agreed to,” the Hezbollah representative explained. He clarified that Hezbollah wants to end military aggression, “but not at the expense of the sovereignty of the (Lebanese) state “.

The threat of nuclear weapons

In his speech after the approval of the ceasefire agreement by the Israeli security cabinet, Netanyahu said that Israel has three reasons for its implementation: after eliminating Hezbollah, it can focus on Iran; to replenish depleted arms stocks and give the army time to rest; to separate the northern and southern fronts and to isolate the Palestinian radical movement Hamas, whose attack on southern Israel in October 2023 triggered a war in the region.

“With Hezbollah out of the game, Hamas is left alone. Our pressure will increase,” Netanyahu said, adding that this situation would allow Israel to bring home the hostages held in the Gaza Strip. Regarding the threat from Iran, Netanyahu expressed his determination to “do whatever it takes” to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

“That is the most important thing. Eliminating this threat (Iran’s nuclear capabilities) is the main goal to guarantee the survival of the Israeli state,” declared the Prime Minister of Israel.
