The revenue of formal small businesses is three times greater than the income of informal entrepreneurs. The result is contained in a study carried out by Sebrae based on data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey, obtained exclusively by CNN.

According to the study, the average income of a small business owner with a CNPJ is around R$5,741 per month, while the average monthly income of an entrepreneur without a CNPJ is R$1,961.

The survey also indicates that the average income that grew the most was recorded among MEIs, micro and small companies in the agricultural segment.

According to the research, the revenue of small businesses linked to the sector grew 12.9% in 2023, compared to 2021. Next come commerce (11.3%), construction (5.1%) and industry (1 .4%).

In addition to boosting companies’ revenue, formalization also ensures small business owners access to credit and social security benefits, says the president of Sebrae, Décio Lima.

“If Simples Nacional ceased to exist, 63% of companies opting for this taxation model would be forced to go informal or reduce their activities”, says Décio Lima.
