The president defended establishing conversations with politicians of different ideologies; Said to be friends with both of them currently
The president (PT) said this Wednesday (27.Nov.2024) that the presidents of the Chamber, (PP-AL), and the Senate, (PSD-MG), were his enemies at the beginning of his term. According to him, currently, both are his friends. He spoke about the importance of establishing political conversations at the Opening of the National Industry Meeting, in Brasília. The event is organized by the CNI (National Confederation of Industry).
“Things happen because you establish conversational capacity, when I took office Lira was my enemy, today Lira is my friend. The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, was my enemy, today he is my friend. Because it is not up to the President of the Republic who will be president of the Chamber or the Senate, it is up to the deputies. The role of the president is to coexist with those who are president and establish conversations to approve what is in the interest of the Brazilian state”he declared.
Lula criticized whoever he called “pessimists” in relation to the country and the economy. According to him, businesspeople need to show how Brazil is better than in 2023, when he took over Planalto. He took the opportunity to criticize the basic interest rate, which was raised by the Central Bank to 11.25%.
“What’s the explanation why interest rates are the way they are today? We have inflation under control, the economy is growing, the lowest level of unemployment since 2012, when it began to be measured. The biggest increase in the wage bill, in other words, if we think positively, there is no setback in this country. But if we keep thinking about newspaper headlines written by people who you don’t even know if they have the ability to write what they write, we won’t move forward”these.
The PT member will once again need his “friends” in Congress to approve a spending cut package and calm the market regarding the government’s fiscal responsibility.
The Minister of Finance, on Monday (Nov 25), said that the announcement of the spending cut package depends on a conversation between the president and the Congress leadership. The intention is to present, in general terms, points of the proposal to the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate and leaders of both Houses.
