Moraes prohibits Martins from participating in a hearing in the Chamber – 11/27/2024 – Panel

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), prohibited the former presidential advisor from being heard by the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

Martins’ hearing was scheduled for this Wednesday (27). He would speak remotely, since he is not authorized to leave the city where he lives, Ponta Grossa (PR).

The invitation to Martins, a former international advisor, was presented by federal deputy Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) in September and approved by the commission the following month.

Martins was imprisoned for six months on Moraes’ orders, which was based on an alleged trip of his to the USA at the end of 2022. The former advisor presented evidence that he did not leave the country, however, and ended up released, but with a series of conditions: among them, not giving interviews or speaking out in public.

In letters this Tuesday (26) to the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and of the Foreign Relations Commission, Lucas Redecker (PSDB-RS), Moraes says that the hearing is vetoed and threatens to arrest Martins again if it happens.

“Failure to comply with the conditions imposed when granting provisional release will result in the immediate conversion of the precautionary measure into preventive detention”, says the STF minister.
