Palmeiras was defeated at home by Botafogo 3-1, this Tuesday (26), at Allianz Parque, in a match valid for the Brazilian Championship.
Botafogo’s victory was built on goals from Savarino, Adryelson and a controversial expulsion of Marcos Rocha, Palmeiras’ right-back, which further complicated the situation for the São Paulo team.
Marcos Rocha’s expulsion, 23 minutes into the second half, was one of the main moments of the game. After a VAR review, the referee changed the yellow card to red, sending off the Palmeiras right-back for a dispute with Igor Jesus before a corner kick.
The expulsion left the São Paulo team even more vulnerable defensively, making any reaction in the game difficult.
With the victory, Botafogo consolidated its leadership in the Brazilian Championship, while Palmeiras, who played at home, suffered a defeat that further removes the team from the top of the table.
The result was a reflection of Botafogo’s good performance, which, with an efficient collective game, knew how to take advantage of Palmeiras’ mistakes and maintain control of the match, despite some attempts to react by the home team.
