The says that the plan to arrest or kill the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), on December 15, 2022, was because the former president (PL) did not have support from the Army High Command for a coup d’état.
The reason for canceling the action against the Supreme Court minister was a question left by the PF in the operation carried out last week against the .
According to the Federal Police, six soldiers (only two were identified) participated in a plan to arrest or kill Moraes on December 15. The suspects organized themselves through a group on Signal, a messaging app, using country codenames.
The planning began nine days earlier, with a meeting between lieutenant colonel Rafael de Oliveira and retired general Mario Fernandes, at Palácio do Planalto. The following day, December 7, Rafael bought a disposable cell phone to carry out the attack.
The messages obtained by the PF show that, as of 8:33 pm on December 15, the suspects codenamed Ghana and Brazil reported being in position. The operation was cancelled, however, at 8:59 pm.
“At 8:57 pm, Austria writes: ‘I’m close to the position. Are you going to cancel the game?’, possibly wanting to know if the action would be cancelled. Two minutes later, the number under the name ‘teixeiralafaiete230’, appointed as leader of the operation, responds : ‘Abort… Austria… return to landing site… we’re here’.”
The Federal Police links the cancellation of Moraes’ execution plan —already on the street, with soldiers standing by— to the position of the Army commander, General Freire Gomes, against the coup d’état.
“The arrest/execution action of Minister ALEXANDRE DE MORAES was initiated on December 15, 2022, but was aborted, when the then President of the Republic JAIR BOLSONARO, did not obtain the support of General FREIRE GOMES and the majority of the High Command of the Army”, says the PF in the final report of the investigation.
Freire Gomes’ position, however, was already known to the leadership of Jair Bolsonaro’s government and members of the Armed Forces since the beginning of December, when he denied Bolsonaro support for the coup’s intentions.
