Project includes reform of Canindé and international partnerships, with a focus on returning to Series A and strengthening the youth categories

Portuguesa’s members approved the proposal to transform the club into a SAF (Sociedade Anônima de Futebol). Voting took place on Tuesday (November 26, 2024), at the Raulzão gymnasium, in Canindé. The proposal was presented by a group of investors formed by Tauá Partners, and Revee, which received broad approval, with 158 votes in favor and 26 against. Approval was the last step needed to formalize the agreement, which aims to revolutionize the club’s structure and finances.

The group plans to invest R$263 million in the football department between 2025 and 2029. The objective is to position Portuguesa in Series A of Brazilian football and reach the semi-finals of the Campeonato Paulista by the end of the decade. Currently, the club competes in the 1st division of the state championship and the 4th national division, Series D.

The project also allocates significant resources to the development of the club. There will be R$50 million for the acquisition of young players, R$44 million for grassroots football, R$18 million for the renovation of the training center and R$7 million for the creation of a competitive women’s team.

With an investment of around R$500 million, the proposal aims to transform Canindé into a multi-use arena, with capacity for 30 thousand spectators for games and up to 50 thousand for shows, inspired by the model of Allianz Parque, in Palmeiras.

Furthermore, investors will assume Portuguesa’s debts, which total around R$500 million, according to the club’s president, Antônio Carlos Castanheira, . The SAF will also form strategic partnerships with international clubs, such as Benfica, from Portugal, and LDU, from Ecuador, to facilitate the transfer of players, according to information from the Sheet.
