Coach Eder Balbino, who said he was afraid of having his name associated with questioning the machines and considered leaving the country.
According to the alleged coup attempt sponsored by (PL), he made it clear that he disagreed with the conclusion that part of the ballot boxes were unreliable.
“I’m unsure whether I should stay in Brazil these days or leave. My wife is feeling it a lot, as are my four children”, he said in a message sent on November 20, 2022 to engineer Carlos Rocha, president of Instituto Voto Legal.
Rock went. He, in turn, subcontracted Balbino’s company, Gaia, based in Uberlândia (MG), to catalog the ballot boxes in a database and analyze their results.
The amount paid to Balbino, called by the party president, “genius from Uberlândia”, was R$ 13 thousand for the work.
The thesis presented, which Balbino did not agree with, was that machines made before 2020 were less reliable and more susceptible to fraud.
On November 17, 2022, he made it clear to his partner in the company, Calebe Aires Camargo Garcia, that he did not share the conclusions. “Maybe it’s good they [PL e Instituto Voto] also know what happened, that we don’t agree with the report”, he stated.
Days later, however, PL president Valdemar Costa Neto gave a press conference alongside Rocha in which he announced that he was questioning the electoral report based on the study of the ballot boxes.
