On Wednesday, the Czech government approved two laws that are supposed to make it possible to grant one-time financial compensation to the victims of the communist regime – to those who were forced to leave the country or were under the so-called protective supervision. In the case of compensation, it should be about the amount of 100,000 Czech crowns (almost 4000 euros), informs TASR according to the Novinky.cz portal article.
As the Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura announced after the meeting, the government approved both bills unanimously. They are to be discussed during this election period, which will end next fall.
The first proposal was prepared by the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic and it concerns the bullying of citizens under the previous regime the so-called protective supervision for political reasons. It consisted in the fact that people had to report regularly at police stations, which Minister Stanjura described as bullying.
“Imposed protective surveillance has been a tool of state power to persecute inconvenient persons, and this law is a way to show appreciation and solidarity to these people,” Czech Minister of Justice Pavel Blažek stated in a press release.
In addition, the government in Prague approved the proposal of the Ministry of the Interior, which, like the one from the Department of Justice aims to compensate people persecuted by the communist State Security (ŠtB) as part of the Asanace event or similar events, write Novinky.cz.
In the case of this draft law from the workshop of the Department of the Interior, people should have two years to submit an application, i.e. until the end of 2026. Compensation should not be subject to personal income tax, enforcement, or be included in the income decisive for the determination of social benefits. People who want to apply for a contribution will have to apply to the mentioned resorts themselves and meet the specified conditions, adds the server.
