The situation complicated Palmeiras’ fight for the title. Botafogo rose to 73 points, with 36 games. Palmeiras is now second, with 70 points and also 36 games.

What does Palmeiras need to be champion of the Brasileirão?
Palmeiras has two rounds to go. Alviverde has to defeat Cruzeiro and hope that Botafogo is defeated by Internacional. The two games are part of the 37th round of the championship.
If this happens, the São Paulo team would reach Botafogo’s 73 points, but would regain the lead due to the higher number of victories. Botafogo’s last round is against São Paulo, while Palmeiras faces Fluminense.
To be sure, rooting for the rival’s defeat is essential, having a scenario where it would guarantee the three points or a draw. If Botafogo beats Inter, and Palmeiras loses or draws with Cruzeiro, the Rio team would reach 76 points, which would make the path to Alviverde unviable.
If until this Tuesday (26/11) Palmeiras only depended on themselves, now the scenario is different.
Only Palmeiras (2nd place, with 70 points), Internacional (3rd, with 65 points) and Fortaleza (4th, with 65 points) can surpass Botafogo.
