Betty demands 50 thousand euros in compensation from the socialite, who allegedly attacked her “during the entire marriage”. A couple of friends reportedly witnessed moments of the violence described by the MP and will testify with new details.
Betty Grafstein presented a request for compensation of 50 thousand euros against her husband, José Castelo Branco, this Wednesday of domestic violence by the Public Ministry (MP).
The American’s defense accuses the socialite of physical and verbal abuse. In addition to allegedly forcing Betty—since the beginning of their marriage, celebrated in 1996—“to wear clothes she chose, to have makeup done by herself and to wear shoes that caused her pain,” she also rationed her food, says the indictment: Betty would sometimes have just a sardine as a meal.
The defense called new witnesses who could confirm episodes of physical aggression on the part of Castelo Branco, according to , including friends of the couple who allegedly witnessed the acts of violence.
The MP’s complaint states that medical examinations carried out following Betty’s complaint indicate that the fall she suffered and which forced her to fall was not accidental. DIAP in Lisbon adds that Betty was hospitalized “following a push allegedly made by the defendant”.
Doctors attested to the victim’s lucidity and good cognitive status, and ruled out any doubts about his version of the events.
“With the conduct described, the accused, aged 61, acted with the realized purpose of mistreating the victim95 years old, harassing her body and mental health, insulting and frightening her, knowing well that she was his wife and being aware of her age”, maintains the MP.
