Duty fulfilled and gained a lot of self-confidence with the first European Championship victory in 18 years: Austria’s handball players clearly won the opening game at the home European Championship on Thursday evening. Team boss Monique Tijsterman’s selection clearly defeated Slovakia in Innsbruck with 37:24 (17:11). Goalkeeper Lena Ivancok showed an outstanding performance, while the variable offense impressed with its penetration. The backcourt players Ines Ivancok-Soltic and Johanna Reichert were top scorers with eight goals, while seven other teammates scored two or more goals.
