The Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah declared “victory” over Israel on Wednesday after a cease-fire came into effect between them in southern Lebanon. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency. “The victory of Almighty God was the ally of the righteous cause. Hezbollah fighters will remain on full alert to face the ambitions of the Israeli enemy and its attacks,” writes the pro-Iranian movement in a statement that does not directly mention the ceasefire or its terms.
On September 23, Israel began bombing Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and a few days later sent its soldiers to the country.. During the conflict, he caused heavy losses to the movement, according to AFP – he killed its long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah and other high-ranking officials. The Israeli army launched these strikes after almost a year of cross-border shelling initiated by Hezbollah as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Hezbollah says Israeli forces have failed in their “attempts … to occupy and settle in any of the cities”, prevent cross-border attacks by militants or “create a military and security buffer zone as hoped” by Israel. According to the statement, the fighters of the movement targeted Israel “until the last day of aggression”.
The ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement came into effect on Wednesday at 04:00 local time (03:00 CET). Both sides of the conflict accepted an agreement brokered by the United States and France.
According to the ceasefire proposal, Israeli ground troops should withdraw from Lebanon within 60 days. Hezbollah would, in turn, in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution no. 1701 is supposed to go beyond the river Lítání, which is located approximately 30 kilometers north of the border.
