The weeks of protests over the results released after the general elections in Mozambique reached a new level of violence this Wednesday, when a military vehicle ran over a young protester on Avenida Eduardo Mondlane, in the center of the capital, Maputo. After the collision, scenes of chaos and revolt followed in the main arteries of Maputo, to which the police responded with live bullets and attacks on homes, recorded in images posted on social media. There were also clashes in Nampula, where at least two people died. This week’s clashes follow the failure of the attempt for dialogue launched by the president of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, who suggested a meeting between the presidential candidates to talk. Venâncio Mondlane refused and says that the important thing is to continue with the protests.
