The Minister of Finance, , met on Wednesday night (27) with the group of parliamentarians and members of the national directory to present the fiscal adjustment measures of the Luiz Inácio da Silva government, promised since mid-October and which they would be presented shortly afterwards on national television.
The minister received a standing ovation, according to reports from PT members present at the meeting at the PT’s national headquarters in Brasília. Haddad showed the video that would be shown on national television and detailed the measures. Publicist Sidônio Palmeira, responsible for communicating the measures, also participated.
The “icing on the cake”, say PT members, was when the minister said that the idea is to take from the 100 thousand to give to the 100 million, in reference to the measures of taxation of the richest and more taxation of Income Tax for those who earn above R$50,000 and an increase in the Income Tax exemption range for those earning up to R$5,000 per month.
The assessment of some of the PT members present at the meeting was that the fiscal adjustment measures appeared in a milder manner than expected and that, therefore, the noise in relation to the project should not be significant within the party.
One example was the maintenance of health and education floors. The flexibility had been discussed and criticized by PT members in recent months, but, as Minister Simone Tebet (Planning) declared this Thursday (28), the changes would bring “little savings”, so they were not included among the fiscal adjustment measures .
Among the measures announced are: limiting the real earnings of the minimum wage; review of the rule for granting salary bonuses; regulation of super wages; tightening of access rules to the BPC (Continuous Payment Benefit); ; and the rules of the tax framework. .
