Dmitry Medvedevvice president of the Russian Security Council and close ally of President Vladimir Putin, has launched a dire nuclear warning to the United States through a publication on Telegram, intensifying tensions in the context of the war in Ukraine.
Medvedev has harshly criticized discussions about a possible shipment of US nuclear weapons to Ukrainecalling them “absurd” and accusing President Joe Biden of fomenting a possible nuclear conflict.
“American politicians and journalists are seriously discussing the consequences of the transfer of nuclear weapons to kyiv. It seems that my sad joke about the crazy and senil Biden, who decided to leave this life with dignity, taking with him an important part of humanity, is becoming a terrifying reality“, he pointed out.
“Give nuclear weapons to a country at war with the largest nuclear power? The idea is so absurd that it raises suspicions of paranoid psychosis in Joe. The Walking Dead and in all those who would advise such a measure“, he added, referring to the outgoing US president as “a walking dead man.”
Warning about the use of nuclear weapons
Medvedev has also noted that even the threat of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine could be considered preparation for a nuclear conflict against Russia:
I must comment on the nonsense. First, the very threat of transferring nuclear weapons to the kyiv regime can be considered a preparation for a nuclear conflict with Russia. Second, the effective transfer of such weapons can be equated to an act of attack against our country under Article 19 of the Basic Principles of State Policy in the Field of Nuclear Deterrence. The consequences are obvious,” he warned.
Article 19 you mention states, that the “conditions specifying the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons by the Russian Federation” include several actions:
- The arrival of reliable information about the launch of ballistic missiles attacking the territory of the Russian Federation and/or its allies.
- If reliable information is also received about the takeoff or launch of airplanes strategic and tactical, missiles cruising, droneshypersonic or other flying vehicles and their crossing of the Russian border.
- He use of nuclear weapons or other types of weapons of mass destruction by an adversary against the Russian Federation and/or its allies.
- Any attack by the adversary against critical government or military sites of the Russian Federationthe interruption of which would undermine the response actions of the nuclear forces.
- A aggression against the Russian Federation with the use of conventional weapons when the very existence of the State is in danger.
