Poland will take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU from Hungary on January 1, 2025.

The priorities of the upcoming Polish presidency of the Council of the EU, which he will take over from Hungary on January 1, 2025, will be security, resilience and Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, reports TASR according to the PAP agency.

Tusk is participating in the summit of the heads of government of the Nordic and Baltic states in the summer residence of the Swedish prime minister at the castle in Harpsund. The meeting will last until Thursday.

“I know that in implementing the program (of the Polish presidency) I will be able to count on the support of all my colleagues present in this room,” he said at a press conference, referring to partners from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Latvia and Estonia. the new government did not attend the meeting.

The importance of energy security

According to Tusk, security should be ensured, for example, by investments in offshore wind energy. “I think I don’t need to explain how important energy security is here on Swedish soil,” he said.

He also expressed his belief that “no one” understands the “complicated and dangerous situation” in the Baltics and the Nordic region better than Poland, which, according to him, also offers the best solutions to current challenges.

He plans to invite the participants of the summit to cooperate in the project to strengthen NATO’s eastern border. According to him, it refers to the fortification system or other devices. “Tonight, my intention is to convince not this group, but other EU partners to prepare more instruments, more financial resources for this project,” he added.
