As a result of heavy snowfall, mass precipitation occurred in South Korea.

South Korea is struggling with heavy snowfall for the second day in a row on Thursday, which has caused the cancellation of dozens of flights, the suspension of ferry operations and the loss of at least four lives. This was reported by the Reuters agency quoted by TASR on Thursday.

The third heaviest snowfall in over 100 years

Snowfall in Seoul was the third heaviest since 1907, when weather records began in the South Korean capital, the Jonhap news agency added, citing data from the city.

Seoul’s Incheon Airport was the most affected by the snowfall, where some flights were delayed and others were completely canceled on Thursday. The operation of 99 ferries on 76 routes was also suspended. Trains were also delayed in the country, and there were also problems on the roads, where mass precipitation occurred as a result of the snowfall.

Schools in Seoul’s neighboring Kyeonggi province were given permission to cancel classes on Thursday if necessary, officials said.

Higher ocean temperature

The unusually heavy snowfall in November also caused higher seawater temperatures in the area west of Korea, Reuters added.

More than 10 centimeters of snow also fell in neighboring North Korea, North Korean Central Television reported.
