The president will renew his efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages later, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said today.
“President Biden intends to begin work today by instructing his envoys to contact Turkey, Qatar, Egypt and other actors in the region” with a view to a ceasefire and an agreement to release the hostages in the Strip Gaza”Sullivan said on MSNBC.
The US sees a “principle of opportunity for a more stable Middle East,” he continued, hailing a deal he said was “the result of relentless diplomacy led by the president Joe Biden”.
A ceasefire in Lebanon was welcomed today by a senior Hamas official, who said the group was “ready” for a ceasefire with the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, with Qatar also hoping for a “similar deal” with Lebanon afterwards from 13 months of war.
